FRANKLIN, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's and men's cross country teams placed fifth and sixth, respectively, at the 2011 Saints Invitational Friday afternoon at Franklin Park. The women finished with 130 points while the men tallied 175 points.
Senior Rachel Scavera (North Bend, Ore./North Bend) was the Lyons highest finisher, finishing the 5K course in sixth place with a time of 21:02. Classmate Savannah Geasey (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth) finished 14th with a mark of 21:33, followed by sophomores Hillary Wilson (Amherst, N.Y./Souhegan) in 32nd place (22:34) and Shoshana Kruskal (Newton, Mass./Newton North) in 40th place (23:03).
Sophomore Lauren Andres (Branford, Conn./Branford) (42nd, 23:09), freshman Amy Komm (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth) (98th, 25:55), and junior Elizabeth Urena (Maywood, Calif./Bell) (145th, 29:50) rounded out the Wheaton runners.
On the men's side, junior Michael Richard (Chicopee, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) led the Lyons with a 10th place finish (28:07), followed by junior Karl Mader (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) in 16th place (28:54) and freshman John Green (Quincy, Mass./Quincy) in 33rd place (30:05). The men's course was 7,955 meters.
Senior Sean Astle (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) grabbed 53rd place (31:16), sophomore Christopher Panzini (Revere, Mass./Revere) was 99th (34:00), and sophomore James Court (Paris, France/American School of Paris) was 128th (38:01).
The Lyons return to action on Sunday, October 30 when they compete at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships at Franklin Park.
