BOSTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's cross country team placed sixth at the 2011 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships Monday afternoon at Franklin Park. The men notched 190 points women while the women tallied 243.
Junior Michael Richard (Chicopee, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) led the men through the 8k course with a 28th place finish (27:41). Classmate Karl Mader (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) was next in 52nd place (28:39), followed by freshman John Green (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) in 77th place (30:21) and senior Sean Astle (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) in 84th place (30:36).
On the women's side, senior Rachel Scavera (North Bend, Ore./North Bend) paced the women on the 5k course with a 43rd place finish (20:50), followed by classmate Savannah Geasey (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth) in 55th place (21:05).
Sophomore Shoshana Kruskal (Newton, Mass./Newton North) recorded a 66th place finish (21:17), followed by sophomores Hillary Wilson (Amherst, N.Y./Souhegan) in 70th place (21:25) and Lauren Andres (Branford, Conn./Branford) in 96th place (22:22).
Sophomore Rose Harris (Worcester, Mass./Doherty) (123rd, 24:35) and freshman Amy Komm (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth) (140th, 28:57) rounded out the Wheaton women.
Both squads return to action on November 12 when they travel to Brunswick, Maine to compete at the NCAA New England Championship at Bowdoin College. The women begin at 11 a.m. with the men starting one hour later.
