NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College men’s cross country team placed fifth overall at the 6th annual Fens Classic this morning, hosted by Emmanuel College, to kick off the 2014 season. The Lyons competed on a three-mile course through Boston's historic Back Bay Fens area, finishing with a lap of the track circling Roberto Clemente Field.

Armed with hedge clippers and rakes, a group of student-athletes headed into the woods behind Beard Hall on Thursday afternoon to continue the work of clearing a trail for running and walking. Since Tuesday, they’ve covered just under one mile of the path, and they intend to clear three to four miles—enough to host a cross country meet and to provide plenty of leisure space for members of the Wheaton community.
