NORTON, Mass. - Wheaton College softball sophomore Megan Roy (North Dighton, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) was selected New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, April 3.
Earning her first weekly conference honor, the first baseman batted .571, slugged 1.143 and recorded a .636 on-base percentage with eight RBI, four runs, two walks, a home run and a double during Wheaton's 2-1 week.
In an 18-0 and 10-2 doubleheader sweep over league foe Smith College on Saturday, Roy combined to go 3-for-4 with six RBI, four runs, two walks and a homer. She batted 2-for-2 with three runs, a trio of RBI and two walks in the opener before going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run in game two.
During Thursday's 6-2 loss at non-conference opponent Rhode Island College, Roy was 1-for-3 with a two-run double that brought Wheaton within a single run in the fifth inning.
For the season, Roy leads the Lyons in RBI (21) while tying for second in home runs (2) and doubles (3).
Wheaton, which is 13-10 overall and 4-4 in the NEWMAC, is scheduled to travel to Babson College on Wednesday for a conference doubleheader beginning at 3:15 p.m.
