Softball Defeats McDaniel; Fall to Haverford in Final Day of Florida Series

GAME ONE: Wheaton 11 - McDaniel 9

RECORDS: Wheaton (2-7, 0-0 NEWMAC) - McDaniel (5-8)

LOCATION: Kissimmee, Fla. (Osceola Complex)

THE RUNDOWN:  

  • Senior Shelbi Wilson picked up the win for the Lyons after pitching four complete innings, giving up three runs on six hits, while striking out one. Jade Assad got the start, going three innings, giving up six runs on eight hits, while striking out and walking two.  
  • Assad and Wilson also led the team offensively, with both players finishing 2-for-3 from the plate, with Assad picking up four RBI. 
  • After a scoreless top of the first, Wheaton wasted no time getting to business with Assad knocking in Lily Ongkiko and Lindsay Whittles with a single up the middle. Whittles led off the game with a free pass to first after being hit by a pitch. 
  • McDaniel's countered in the top of the second with four runs, but quickly had that erased by seven Lyon runs in the bottom half of the inning. A series of sacrific bunts and hits, along with five Green Terror errors, allowed several Wheaton players to come home. 
  • Wheaton tacked on another run in the third inning with Assad once again knocking in Ongkiko with another single up the middle. 
  • The Green Terror added two more runs in the fourth to make it a 10-6 game. Wheaton also scored in the fourth with Jessica Nardozza coming around to score on a wild pitch. Nardozza started the inning with a single up the middle. 
  • McDaniel's plated three more runs in the top of the seventh, but that's as close as they would get.

LOCATION: Kissimmee, Fla. (Osceola Complex)

THE RUNDOWN:  

  • Allison Cox picked up the loss for the Lyons, after surrendering six runs on seven hits after 2.1 innings of work. Wilson and Assad also took to the circle, with Wilson giving up seven runs on five hits. 
  • Ongkiko ended the game 3-for-3, while Wilson went 2-for-3 with a run scored. 
  • Trailing 13-0, Wheaton plated two runs in the fourth with Wilson and Clara DeCarvalho coming aroudn to score on an Allicyn Cole single to right field.
