Dyster lifts Lyons to Wheaton Invitational figures victory
NORTON, MA- Behind freshman Christine Dyster's (Tempe, AZ/Corona del Sol) C figures victory, the Wheaton College synchronized swimming team topped a six-team field on Sunday during the figures competition at the Wheaton Invitational in Balfour Natatorium.
The Lyons finished with 29 points, easily outdistancing second-place University of Pennsylvania, which had 21.5 points, and perennial regional heavyweight Canisius College, which took third with 21.
Wheaton athletes were among the top three in each the A, B and C figures competitions, with Dyster topping the C field with a score of 61.702. Freshman Elizabeth Watkins (Indianapolis, IN/University High School of Indiana) took third at 59.744.
Freshman Rebecca Gordon (North Haven, CT/North Haven) nabbed third in B figures with 66.046 points, while sophomore Christiana Butera (San Diego, CA/Academy of Our Lady of Peace) and freshman Kirsten Wendth (Waterford, NY/Shenendehowa) took fifth and ninth, respectively. Butera totaled 65.306 points, while Wendth had 64.486.
Senior Laura Montes (San Juan, PR/Academia San Jose) placed third in A figures with 75.611 points, finishing behind a pair of Canisius swimmers.
Wheaton hits the road on Saturday for the Canisius Invitational at 2:00 p.m.
