Lyons record top placements across the board to win Wheaton Invitational
NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College synchronized swimming team swept all four routine events en route to the top placement at its own invitational on Saturday in Balfour Natatorium, as the Lyons finished with 88 points to best the six-school field.
Boston University placed second with 58 points, while Penn State University took third with 45.
Junior co-captain Christiana Butera (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) and sophomore co-captain Kirsten Wendth (Waterford, N.Y./Shenendehowa) led the way by having a hand in three event wins apiece.
Butera recorded the top score in the solo routine with 82.000 points while joining Wendth on the victorious duet team that earned 80.500 points. In trio, Wendth sided with sophomore Christine Dyster (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) and freshman Nicole Chicoine (Santa Rosa, Calif./Santa Rosa) for the highest score of 77.667 points.
Butera, Chicoine, Dyster, Wendth, junior Anastasia Hare (Buffalo, N.Y./Buffalo Seminary), sophomores Rebecca Gordon (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) and Elizabeth Watkins (Indianapolis, Ind./University High School of Indiana), and freshman Holly Wagman (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) combined for a first-place score of 83.167 points in team.
Other placements came from Gordon's runner-up mark of 75.500 points in solo and Dyster's and Wagman's second-place finish in duet that tallied 74.500 points.
The Lyons complete the weekend by hosting a figures portion of their invitational tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m.
