BOSTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College synchronized swimming team swept the figures and routines competitions en route to a first-place finish during Saturday's Boston University Invitational at the BU Aquatic Center.
The Lyons topped the five-school field with 100 points. The hosts came in second with 79 points and were followed by the University of Pennsylvania's 75.5.
Junior co-captain Christiana Butera (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) and sophomore co-captain Kirsten Wendth (Waterford, N.Y./Shenendehowa) contributed to three routines victories apiece, including siding during the duet and team competitions.
In team, Butera, Dyster, Wagman, Wendth, junior Anastasia Hare (Buffalo, N.Y./Buffalo Seminary), sophomores Rebecca Gordon (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) and Elizabeth Watkins (Indianapolis, Ind./University High School of Indiana), and freshman Nicole Chicoine (Santa Rosa, Calif./Santa Rosa) tallied 78.167 points.
Butera's solo score of 78.500 points beat out Gordon's 73.667, while Chicoine, Dyster and Wendth compiled the top finish of 75.500 points in trio.
In figures, Butera was the lone swimmer in A elements with 73.659 points. Gordon swept the six-swimmer B figures field with 66.961 points, edging out Wendth's 65.689, while Dyster earned the top score in C at 62.583. Hare, Chicoine and Watkins went 2-3-4. In D, Wagman's tally of 62.929 points bested 24 other swimmers.
The Lyons return to the pool in two weekends, when they host the combined two-day East Collegiate Regional and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship beginning on Saturday, March 5.
