NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's basketball senior Andrea Bailey (Needham, MA/Needham) was one of 22 players chosen to play in the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Senior All-Star Classic on Saturday, March 27.
With the game slated to be played at Western New England College in Springfield at 1:00 p.m., Bailey joins a United States Coast Guard Academy player as the lone New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) representatives.
Bailey, who served as a co-captain on this year's squad, led the Lyons to a 16-11 record and a fourth straight NEWMAC Tournament semifinal appearance. The Division III leader in assists (168) and helpers per game (6.2), Bailey paced Wheaton in three-point field goal percentage (.393), free throw shooting (.820) and steals (51). From her point guard position, she also ranked second on the team in rebounding (5.6) and third in scoring (9.3).
Entering last week, Bailey was the only Division III player averaging at least 9.0 points, 6.0 assists and 5.5 rebounds, joining a Division I player as the only two NCAA women's basketball players with those figures. Selected to the all-league first team, Bailey broke the program's 21-year-old career assists record, finishing with 500, while surpassing the 20-year-old season mark.
Scoring in double figures 14 times while dishing out seven or more assists on 11 occasions and grabbing six or more rebounds 11 times, Bailey was eighth in a season at Wheaton in threes (48) and free throw percentage and ninth in three-point shooting. For her career, she tied for the school record in games played (114) while placing second in three-point percentage (.351) and seventh in three-pointers (102).
