UNCASVILLE, Conn. – The Wheaton College women's basketball team and the Heller's Angels Special Olympics Team had its partnership recognized earlier today by the Connecticut Sun of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) at a game against the Indiana Fever at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Both groups were treated to great seats and some fun fan experiences throughout the day. Prior to the game, the Lyons and Angels formed a tunnel for the players to run through as they entered the court for warm-ups. Both groups were also recognized over the public address system and on the Mohegan Sun Arena video board in addition to taking a team photo at center court with Blaze, the team's mascot, and the Sun's dance team – Solar Power. Everyone got a free t-shirt and a free food voucher as well.
"It was an honor to be recognized with our Heller's Angels buddy team today at the WNBA game," said Wheaton College women's basketball head coach Melissa Hodgdon. "We made new memories today that will make our relationship with them even stronger. We shared many smiles and laughs plus got to see an overtime win by the Connecticut Sun!"
"I also want to thank Bloom for donating the bus we went on for the game today," said Hodgdon. "Both teams are very grateful for the generous offer Bloom extended to all of us."
On April 22, the women's basketball team was recognized for their work with the Heller's Angels by Special Olympics Massachusetts. Wheaton also won the NCAA Division III Spotlight Poll in December of 2012 winning a fan vote for their work with the squad.
The Lyons have worked with the Angels for over five years.
