Colburn earns first career NEWMAC honor after 20-point week

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's lacrosse sophomore Hailey Colburn (Concord, NH/Concord) was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, March 21. It was the first league accolade of Colburn's young career.

After tallying one goal and two assists in four games as a freshman, Colburn averaged 6.7 points during Wheaton's three-game week, totaling 11 goals and nine assists. In a 16-10 setback on Monday to the State University of New York (SUNY) at Geneseo, Colburn notched four goals and three assists before collecting five goals and two assists during a 15-10 win over Western New England College on Tuesday. On Thursday, in a narrow 12-11 loss against Connecticut College, Colburn fell one assist shy of a 10-year-old school record with five while scoring twice.

In addition to pacing the squad in both goals and assists, Colburn has a team-high 20 points - a plateau reached by only five Lyons all of last spring - and six caused turnovers. She has found the back of the net on 57.9 percent of her shots thus far this season.

At 1-2, Wheaton continues on the road tomorrow at Bowdoin College, as the Lyons face the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foe at 7:00 p.m.
