Wheaton Falls at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team hit the road for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest at Springfield College Saturday afternoon. The Pride won the contest 12-5 at Stagg Field. 

Wheaton was led by senior Giovanna Bishop, who ended the day with three of the Lyons five goals, while Katie Peters finished with two assists. Molly Witten and Galicia Rothe split time in net for Wheaton, making six combined saves. 

Meg Sharick, Megan Hemmerlein and Lydia Regan each came up with three ground balls, while Regan led the team with three caused turnovers. 

The Lyons took an early lead when Peters found the back of the net on a free-position play just 1:57 into the game. The Pride responded with six goals over the remainder of the opening half. 

Springfield tacked on two more goals to start the second period. Trailing 8-1, Wheaton responded with three consecutive goals. Molly Covarrubias started the scoring with an unassisted goal with 27:17 to go. Bishop followed with back-to-back goals. The senior's first goal came with a feed from Peters with 23:14 on the clock. Bishop converted a free-position shot for her next goal just three minutes later. 

The Pride added three more goals before Bishop could net her third of the day. Bishop concluded her hat trick with just second remaining in the game with another pass from Peters. 

Wheaton returns to the field on Wednesday, April 19 at 7 p.m. with a road game against MIT.
