Liffers secures first conference honor during Wheaton's unbeaten week

NORTON, Mass. - Wheaton College women's soccer senior tri-captain Colleen Liffers (Merrimac, Mass./Pentucket Regional) picked up the first league honor of her career on Monday, when she was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, September 12.

Liffers, who spends time as a defender as well as in the midfield for the Lyons, helped lead her team to a 2-0-1 record last week.  She scored the game-winning goal against Western Connecticut State University while helping hold nationally-ranked Middlebury College to one goal in a double-overtime tie.

During Wednesday's 6-1 victory over Emmanuel College, Liffers played an integral role in limiting the Saints to a single tally.  Saturday's 3-1 win against Western saw Liffers score Wheaton's initial two goals, marking the first multi-goal game of her career.  On Sunday, Liffers and the Lyon defense held 11th-ranked Middlebury to one tally through 110 minutes.

The 4-0-1 Lyons, who are receiving votes nationally and ranked fourth in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), head to Endicott College on Wednesday for a non-league game at 6:00 p.m.
