CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's soccer team rebounded from its first loss of the season in posting a 3-1 non-conference victory at Lesley University under the lights Thursday night on Edward Field.
The Lyons, who are receiving national votes and ranked fourth in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), improved to 9-1-1 in handing Lesley just its second home loss. Going 0-3-1 in its last four games, the Lynx falls to 4-4-2.
All the game's scoring took place in the opening half, with junior Jessica Stuart (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) matching her season goal total of two tallies, including notching her first game-winner of the fall. Senior Emily Hough (Norwich, Vt./Hanover) tacked on the Blue and White's third goal.
With Hough's tally, she moved into a tie for sixth on Wheaton's all-time points list with 107, joining second-year assistant coach Jenna Rabesa '08 and one other. Hough's 35 goals are one shy of Rabesa for eighth place.
Freshman goalie Kerry Condon (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Regional) made six saves while picking up her fourth win of the season.
After allowing an eighth-minute goal off a corner kick, the Lyons stormed back with three scores during a 7:27 span. Junior Emily Vincunas' (Granville, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson Academy) assisted Stuart's winner at 34:11 for her first point of the fall, while Hough completed the scoring just over five minutes later.
Wheaton returns home on Saturday to face New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent Mount Holyoke College at 1:00 p.m.
