NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College women's soccer seniors Kaitlyn Mawicke (Trumbull, Conn./Notre Dame Academy) and Emily Vincunas (Granville, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson Academy), along with junior Cassey Muse (Candia, N.H./Central), have been named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) First Team.
Mawicke led the Lyons with 11 points (3-5-11) in nine conference matches. She recorded three points (1-1-3) in wins over WPI, Mount Holyoke, and Coast Guard, and her three NEWMAC goals was tied for third in the conference. Overall, she closed the season with 11 points (4-3-11) in her final eight matches and a total of 19 points (6-7-19) while starting all 21 matches.
Vincunas recorded four points (1-2-4) in nine conference matches, scoring three points (1-1-3) at Mount Holyoke and added an assist at Wellesley. Vincunas assisted on the Lyons lone goal against MIT in the conference semifinals. In 21 matches, she compiled 12 points (3-6-12).
A second team selection as a sophomore in 2010, Muse tallied eight points (3-2-8) in nine conference matches – including the game-winning goal in a key 2-0 win over MIT which helped secure the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament. She scored two goals in a win at Mount Holyoke and picked up assists against WPI and Coast Guard. Muse – who finished tied with Mawicke for third in the conference in goals – enters this weekend's NCAA Tournament with a team-leading 23 points (9-5-23).
The Lyons (15-3-3) were selected to their 12th consecutive NCAA Tournament on Monday and travel to Geneva, N.Y. for a first round match with Salisbury University this Saturday, Nov. 12, at 1:30 p.m.
