NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's soccer team will play host and No. 2 ranked William Smith College in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Sunday afternoon at Cozzens Field at 1 p.m.
The Lyons (16-3-3) advanced to the second round for the third-straight season with a 1-0 win over Salisbury on Saturday afternoon. Junior Samantha Cronin (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) scored her second goal of the season 13 minutes into the second half and senior goalkeeper Erin Cawley (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) made five saves to earn her second win of the season.
The Herons (17-0-1) defeated Lancaster Bible 6-0 in their first round match. Ranked second in the country heading into the tournament, William Smith has allowed just one goal all season.
The two schools have one prior meeting, which occoured in the national quarterfinal round in 2002. Following 110:00 minutes of action without a goal, the Herons advanced on penalty kicks, 5-4.
Wheaton owns a 4-5-1 mark in second round matches. They have played well away from home this season, going 10-1-1.
