NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's swimming & diving sophomore Julia Wright (Pomfret, VT/Northfield Mount Hermon School) was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Diver of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, January 10. The honor was the second of Wright's career, as she also earned the first NEWMAC Diver-of-the-Week accolade in the league's history on November 3, 2008.
Wright notched her first NCAA Championship cut while sweeping the one- and three-meter diving competitions during Friday's 186-114 loss at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which is tied for sixth nationally in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll. Wright's score of 264.51 during the one-meter dive surpassed the NCAA Championship provisional cut, while her 260.99-point total on the three-meter platform also neared a provisional standard.
Wright's one-meter score ranks second among NEWMAC divers this season, while her three-meter result places her fourth. During last year's league championship meet, Wright set program records in both the one- and three-meter competitions, and she is tied for second on the squad this winter with nine individual event victories.
At 5-3, Wheaton returns to action on Saturday for a double-dual meet at Connecticut College. The Lyons meet the Camels and Trinity College at 1:00 p.m.
