NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's and women's swimming & diving teams suffered losses to New York University and Coast Guard Saturday afternoon at Balfour Natatorium. The men lost 240-58 to the Violets and 255-71 to the Bears while the women fell 211-82 to the Violets and 182-109 to the Bears.
Freshman Adrianne Madden (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) picked up the lone first-place finish of the afternoon for either Wheaton side, placing first in the 50-yard free. She also placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke.
Sophomore Nina Lanctot (Chatham, Mass.) placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke and fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke. Freshman Cara Morris (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) picked up a pair of top-five finishes as she placed third in the 100-yard butterfly and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle.
Junior Caroline Isaacs (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) earned three top-five finishes for the Lyons, capturing third in the 1,000-yard free and fifth in both the 200-yard free and 500-yard free. Senior Sarah Miller (Madison, N.J./Madison) was third in the 200-yard breaststroke and fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke. Junior Dana Auger (Milford, Mass./Milford) picked up fourth in the 100-yard backstroke and fifth in the 200-yard backstroke.
The women also recorded a pair of second-place finishes in relays. The team of Auger, Morris, Lanctot, and Madden took second in the 200-yard medley while the foursome of Madden, Isaacs, Morris and Miller grabbed second in the 200-yard medley.
On the men's side, sophomore Charlie Maier (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) recorded a pair of second-place finishes in the 1 mtr and 3 mtr dive events for the men while freshman Ben Oliveri (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) placed fifth in both events. Freshman Richard Jenkins (Bow, N.H./Bow) captured fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke while senior Devon Best (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood) was fifth.
The 400-yard free relay team of R. Jenkins, sophomore Emerson Jenkins (Kansas City, Mo./Pembroke Hill School), junior Sam Neill (Ludlow, Mass./Belchertown) and freshman Nick Fredette (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) placed fifth.
The Lyons return to action next Saturday when they travel to Springfield, Mass. for a meet with the Pride and Keene State at 1 p.m.
