Madden records two first-place finishes on day two of Wheaton Invitational
NORTON, Mass. – Sophomore Adrianne Madden (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) recorded a pair of first-place finishes on day two of the 2012 Wheaton College Invitational Saturday afternoon at Balfour Natatorium.
Madden placed first in the 50-yard free (24.90) and 100-yard free (54.56) events. She also helped the 200-yard free relay team of senior Sarah Miller (Madison, N.J./Madison) and juniors Dana Auger (Milford, Mass./Milford) and Elle Van Cott (Back Delmar, N.Y./Bethelhem Central) to a second-place finish (1:42.96).
Senior Taryn Brosnan (Westford, Mass./Academy of Notre Dame) took second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:19.62) while sophomore Nina Lanctot (Chatham, Mass.) was third in the 100-yard back (1:11.20) and fifth in the 200-yard breast. Lanctot also teamed up with Van Cott and freshmen Cara Morris (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) and Callie Renfrew (Vacaville, Calif./Webb School of California) to place fifth in the 200-yard medley.
Over in the diving well, senior Alexandra Wilson (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) finished sixth in the 3 mtr dive and seventh in the 1 mtr dive. Other top finishers for the women included junior Kirstie Parkinson (Singapore, Singapore/Singapore American School) in the 400-yard IM (sixth) and Van Cott in the 100-yard back (seventh).
Sophomore Emerson Jenkins (Kansas City, Mo./Pembroke Hill School) and freshman Dominic Ziolek (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) each earned one sixth-place finish and one seventh-place finish to pace the men's squad. Jenkins placed sixth in the 100-yard free and seventh in the 50-yard free while Ziolek finished sixth in the 200-yard back and seventh in the 200-yard IM.
Freshman Ben Oliveri (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) finished third in the 3 mtr dive (325.60) and fifth in the 1 mtr dive. Sophomore Sam Jackson (Darien, Conn./Darien) recorded a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard back. Meanwhile, the men's 200-yard medley relay team of Jenkins and freshmen Cory Hedges (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), Richard Jenkins (Bow, N.H./Bow), and Nick Fredette (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) posted a sixth-place finish.
Wheaton returns to action February 17 when it begins competition at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship at 11 a.m.
