Junior duo collects fifth weekly doubles award, Teague honored
NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's tennis juniors Sarah Geocaris (Newport Beach, CA/Sage Hill School) and Catherine Teague (Manchester, NH/Central) collected the fifth weekly league doubles honor of their careers, being named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Doubles Team of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, September 6. Teague also picked up her second career singles accolade.
The duo, which is ranked 11th in the Northeast by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), recorded a pair of victories at first doubles during Wheaton's 2-0 week. Helping lead the Lyons to sweeps of Salve Regina University and Simmons College, the pair opened the season with an 8-1 triumph over Salve last Friday before posting an 8-4 win at Simmons the next day.
Teague, who is ranked 15th regionally, didn't allow a game from her second singles position. Teague posted a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Salve before repeating the effort at Simmons.
Ranked 12th in the region as a team, Wheaton returns to action with a home match on Wednesday afternoon against regionally-ranked foe Brandeis University at 4:00 p.m. The Judges sit 14th in the ITA's Northeast poll.
