Geocaris and Teague reach quarterfinals at ITA Regional Tournament

CAMBRIDGE, MA- For the second straight year, Wheaton College women's tennis juniors Sarah Geocaris (Newport Beach, CA/Sage Hill School) and Catherine Teague (Manchester, NH/Central) advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Tournament at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Seeded fourth in the 32-team open doubles draw, Geocaris and Teague cruised to an 8-1 opening-round triumph over MIT senior Anisa McCree (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxboro Regional) and sophomore Alex Hall (Hemet, CA/Hemet) on Friday before edging out a tandem from two-time defending NCAA champion Williams College.

Trailing 6-3 to Williams junior Lucy Marchese (Summit, NJ/Pingry School) and freshman Nancy Worley (New Orleans, LA/Metairie Park Country Day School), Geocaris and Teague stormed back to take an 8-7 lead.  After the Ephs knotted the contest at eight, the Lyon tandem rebounded to notch a thrilling 7-4 victory in the tiebreaker to take the match.

During Saturday's quarterfinal, Geocaris and Teague fell to a seeded tandem from 2008 national runner-up Amherst College.  Senior Brittany Berckes (Secaucus, NJ/Montclair-Kimberley Academy) and sophomore Laura Danzig (Allendale, NY/Northern Highlands) eliminated the Wheaton duo by an 8-0 count.

Geocaris and Teague also competed in Friday's singles draw, with each winning in the first round.  Geocaris opened play with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over her opponent from Vassar College before falling to the seventh seed from Middlebury College, 6-3, 6-2.  Teague needed three sets to get past a player from Williams, 6-4, 3-6, 11-9, before dropping a 6-0, 6-1 decision to the sixth seed representing Tufts University.

The Lyons return to their dual-match slate on Wednesday afternoon when they host Endicott College at 4:00 p.m.
