NORTON, Mass. – Sophomore Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) and freshman Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) were selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWNAC) Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week.
The pair went 3-0 at No. 1 doubles last week to improve to 7-3 on the season and help the Lyons (7-2, 4-2 NEWMAC) win two of their three matches. After opening the week with an 8-1 win over Alex Freeman and Sarah Whitaker of Babson on Thursday, the pair notched an 8-4 win over Nahrhee Han and AnnElizabeth Konkel of Mount Holyoke on Saturday. They closed the week with an 8-0 shutout of Sarah Wiener and Kathryn Vergeyle of Colby the following afternoon.
"They are a new team this year with incredible potential," said Wheaton head coach Lynn Miller. "Their style of play differs from one another, and we are working on blending these differences to bring out the best in one another's game. They are a pleasure to coach and have some great natural athletic ability to work with."
Cooke and Marlowe become the second Wheaton doubles pair to earn NEWMAC weekly honors this season. On Sept. 5, senior co-captain Allesandra DiOrio (Cumberland, R.I./Lincoln School) and sophomore Sarah Crom (Bremen, Germany/International School of Bremen) were tabbed Doubles Team of the Week. One week later, Cooke was named NEWMAC Singles Player of the Week (Sept. 12).
The Lyons return to action tomorrow when they host MIT in a key conference match at 4 p.m.
