Women's Tennis Falls To Gettysburg, 5-4
Cooke, Marlowe double-winners for Lyons
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Wheaton College women's tennis team, ranked no. 20 overall in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Region rankings, lost to Gettysburg College, 5-4, in non-conference action on Monday afternoon.
Junior Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) and sophomore Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) highlighted Wheaton's efforts on the afternoon by winning each of their singles matches and also teaming up for a No.1 doubles victory.
Cooke handled Bullets' sophomore Caroline Haymans (Great Falls, Va./Oakcrest) at No.1 singles in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Marlowe posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over sophomore Isabelle Rodriguez (Plano, Texas/Plano) at No. 2 singles. Cooke and Marlowe defeated Rodriguez and Haymans earlier in the match at No.1 doubles by a score of 8-2.
Senior Jesse Boggis (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) picked up the Lyons only other win against Gettysburg with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph versus senior Meg Kelly (Beach Haven, N.J./Southern Regional) at No.3 singles.
Wheaton (9-5, 4-3 NEWMAC) returns to action against Rhodes College on Tuesday, March 12 in Hilton Head, S.C. at 1 p.m. Gettysburg (2-1) takes on Mississippi College tomorrow at 8 a.m.
