Women’s Tennis Sweeps Wheaton Invitational

Lyons take every match in their own invite

NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's tennis team earned victories in every match of its own tournament inside Beard Field House on Sunday afternoon against Clark University, Curry College and Salve Regina University.

Junior Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) defeated Megan Mulrooney (Curry) 8-0 in the opening flight and posted a straight-sets triumph over Kasey Walther (Salve Regina) in the championship round at No.1 singles.

At No.2 singles, sophomore Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) posted an 8-0 victory over Ana Gwozdz (Salve Regina) in her first flight. Marlowe won the championship round by a score of 6-0, 6-0 against Phoebe Hughes from Clark University.

Senior Jesse Boggis (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) ousted Lauren Chuha (Curry) 8-1 in the opening round of No.3 singles and defeated Maggie Swann (Clark), 6-0, 6-0 in the championship flight.

Sophomore Kathryn Burleson (Osterville, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) and freshman Caroline DiNicola-Fawley (Brattleboro, Vt./Brattleboro Union) earned an 8-3 win over Kera Snyder and Rebecca Kravetz of Clark University in the first round at No.1 doubles. Burleson and DiNicola-Fawley played the Curry College duo of Devin Curley and Elizabeth Zarkades in the finals and turned in an 8-5 victory.

Freshman Izzy Gorham (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) and junior Jessica Moore (Middletown, R.I./The Prout School) teamed up for an 8-1 triumph over Shannon O'Brien and Lindsey Macedo (Salve Regina) in the round of No.2 doubles. Gorham and Moore defeated teammates Stassy Furber (Montpelier, Vt./Montpelier) and Julia Parmakian (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) in the finals, 8-1.

Furber and Parmakian advanced to the finals with an 8-2 victory over Alison Rhodes and Kate Johnson of Curry College.

Wheaton (9-6, 4-3 NEWMAC) returns to action on Friday, April 5 in non-conference action against Oneonta State at home with match time scheduled for 4:00 p..m.
