Lyons look ahead to NEWMAC Tournament
WATERVILLE, Maine – The Wheaton College women's tennis team wrapped up its fall regular season with a 9-0 victory over Colby College in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.
Wheaton co-captains Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) and Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) teamed up for an 8-3 triumph at No.1 doubles, while going on to win their respective singles matches to highlight the Lyons' efforts. Marlowe posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No.1 singles to remain undefeated with a 10-0 record at the position. Cooke claimed a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No.2 singles to push her season record to 8-0 at the second position and 9-0 overall in singles play.
At No.2 doubles, senior Morgan Bell (Gloucester, Mass./Pingree School) and freshman Amanda Brazell Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) turned in an 8-3 decision for their sixth victory of the season as a duo. Bell bounced back from an early 6-1 loss in set one at No.3 singles eventually winning the match by a 1-6, 7-6, 10-6 score, while Brazell earned a straight sets victory at No.4.
Seniors Sarah Crom (Bremen, Germany/International School of Bremen) and Jessica Moore (Middletown, R.I./The Prout School) notched an 8-2 victory at No.3 doubles finishing the season at 7-0 overall from the third position. Crom also bested her opponent 6-1, 6-3 at No.5 singles and sophomore Caroline DiNicola-Fawley (Brattleboro, Vt./Brattleboro Union) rounded out singles action at the No.6 position with an identical 6-1, 6-3 decision.
Third-seeded Wheaton (9-2, 6-2 NEWMAC) will host sixth-seeded Springfield College (6-5, 3-5 NEWMAC) on Wednesday, October 23 in the NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinals at the Clark Tennis Courts at 3 p.m.
