Simmons Edges Women’s Tennis, 5-4
Lyons take two out of three doubles matches
NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to Simmons College in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Clark Tennis Courts.
Wheaton concluded doubles play with a 2-1 cushion going into singles action as senior Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) and sophomore Amanda Brazell (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) turned in an 8-4 victory at No.1 over Meg Cokely (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) and Caroline Khoury (Portsmouth, Ohio/Portsmouth). At No. 2 doubles, Caroline DiNicola-Fawley (Brattleboro, Vt./Brattleboro Union) and Izzy Gorham (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) defeated Rachael Downey (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) and Theresa Reinhard (Canton, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) by a score of 9-8 (7-5).
Brazell went on to post a 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 victory at No.1 singles, while DiNicola-Fawley won her No. 3 singles matchup, 7-6, 6-2. The Sharks took the remaining singles matches highlighted by Khoury's efforts at the No. 4 position with a score of 6-3, 6-7, 6-4.
Wheaton (0-1) travels to Nichols College on Tuesday, September 2 for a 4 p.m. non-conference match. Simmons (1-0) visits Mount Holyoke College next Monday at 1 p.m.
