Nichols Defeats Women’s Tennis, 8-1

Marlowe & Brazell team up for Lyons lone victory at No.1 doubles

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's tennis team lost to Nichols College, 8-1, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening at the Pomfret School.

Wheaton senior Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) and sophomore Amanda Brazell (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) picked up the Lyons lone victory at No. 1 doubles with an 8-1 decision over Alanna Judd (Westboro, Mass./Westboro) and Lauren Candia (Anaheim Hills, Calif./Saint Peter-Marian).

At No. 1 singles, Brazell played a tightly contested match against Judd but eventually fell by a score of 1-6, 6-4, 10-6. Caroline DiNicola-Fawley (Brattleboro, Vt./Brattleboro Union) also won her first set at No. 3 singles before losing 4-6, 6-0, 6-1.

Wheaton (0-2) hosts Mount Holyoke College in its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) season opener on Saturday at the Clark Tennis Courts at 1 p.m. Nichols (2-1) hosts Assumption College on Thursday at 4 p.m.
