Pauri Pandian begins his third year as the head men's and women's tennis coach in 2017-18. Pandian joins the Wheaton staff after serving as an assistant coach at Brandeis University for the last five seasons.
Pandian takes over for Hall of Fame head coach Lynn Miller who posted a 373-236-2 record with the women's tennis program and a 259-160 record at the helm of the men's tennis program over the course of her 35-year career in Norton, Mass.
"We are excited to welcome Pauri Pandian to the Wheaton family as our new tennis coach," said Sutyak." Pauri has a clear vision for Wheaton College tennis and I am excited to work with him as we look to regularly compete for NEWMAC championships."
"Pauri's experience as an NCAA Division III student-athlete and as an assistant coach at a high level academic institution such as Brandeis provides him with the background and knowledge to recruit and coach high achieving academic and athletic student-athletes here at Wheaton."
During his time at Brandeis, Pandian helped guide the women's team to a year-end national ranking each year, which included All-America performances from Carley Cooke '15 and Faith Broderick '13, and also aided the men's squad to numerous All-University Athletic Association (UAA) selections. Cooke finished her career as one of the most decorated athletes in school history with five All-America selections in her four years with the Judges, all under Pandian's watch.
At the conclusion of the 2014-15 academic year, Pandian was named the 2015 Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Men's Assistant Coach of the Year and the Regional Coach of the Year for both the men and women's programs for his efforts.
Prior to joining the Judges, Pandian was a head coach at the high school level at Beaver Country Day School from 2009-2011, where his team registered a cumulative record of 34-4. Pandian's squad won the Eastern Independent League (EIL) each year, while also winning the New England Prep School Athletic Conference title in 2009. His players were awarded 14 EIL All-Star selections, and Pauri was the 2009 Coach of the Year in the EIL.
Pandian graduated from Wesleyan University in 2008, double majoring in English and religion. A four-year starter and captain his senior year, Pandian played in every spot in the singles and doubles lineup throughout his career.
