NORTON, Mass. - Wheaton College women's outdoor track & field juniors Ashley Dell'Aira (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) and Didine Jusme (Providence, R.I./Classical) swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference's (NEWMAC) weekly awards for the week ending on Sunday, April 17.
Named NEWMAC Field Athlete of the Week for the second straight Monday, Dell'Aira marked an NCAA national meet provisional qualifying distance of 37' 4" during the triple jump, good for second overall, at Northeastern University's non-scoring Solomon Invitational on Saturday. An NCAA All-America triple jumper at this past winter's indoor national championship, she also notched a runner-up finish last weekend in the long jump at 16' 6 1/2".
Jusme, an NCAA All-American in the indoor 55-meter hurdles in March, was selected NEWMAC Track Athlete of the Week for the third time in her career, as she also garnered the award two times as a sophomore. At Northeastern, Jusme captured the 100-meter hurdles crown while running an NCAA national meet provisional qualifying time of 14.74. She also ran a leg of the meet's top 4x100-meter relay team that finished in 49.61.
Wheaton heads to NEWMAC school Springfield College on Saturday to compete in the Pride's invitational.
