Pair of NCAA provisional standards highlight Lyons' showing at ECACs
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Wheaton College men's and women's track & field teams recorded a pair of NCAA national meet provisional qualifying marks at the two-day Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship that ended on Friday at Moravian College's Breidegam Track.
The women tied two other schools for 20th place among 56 scoring squads with 13 points, while the men didn't score. Ithaca College claimed the women's team championship, while Bates College was victorious on the men's side.
Junior Ashley Dell'Aira (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) finished fourth in the triple jump with an NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 37' 4 1/2", while freshman Ashante Little (Seabrook, N.H./Winnacunnet) placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles event with a provisional time of 1:03.83.
Senior Laurenmaria Smith (Providence, R.I./Hope), juniors Lauren Cardarelli (Cranston, R.I./La Salle Academy) and Didine Jusme (Providence, R.I./Classical) and sophomore Amanda Claflin (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) also took sixth in the 4x100-meter relay.
Sophomore Sylvia Okoye (Stanhope, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) placed seventh and 15th in the discus and hammer, respectively. Freshman Mollie Lane (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) tied for 10th in the high jump, while sophomore Amanda Claflin (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) finished 14th in the long jump.
For the men, sophomore Ben Miklovich (New Gloucester, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) recorded a 13th-place mark during the 200-meter dash, and freshman Michael Read (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) tied for 15th in the 100M race.
The Lyons will await word on which athletes will compete at next week's three-day NCAA Championship that begins on Thursday at Ohio Wesleyan University.
