DELAWARE, Ohio - Wheaton College women's outdoor track & field juniors Ashley Dell'Aira (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) and Didine Jusme (Providence, R.I./Classical) finished competition at the NCAA Championship on Friday at Ohio Wesleyan University's Selby Field and Gauthier Track. The three-day meet concludes tomorrow.
Jusme, who was seeking her initial outdoor All-America honor during an individual event, fell just short in this afternoon's 100-meter hurdles trials. Needing to finish in the top eight to not only advance to tomorrow's finals but also qualify for All-America status, Jusme took ninth in the 23-athlete field with a time of 14.42, which was a mere 0.02 ticks from eighth.
Coming off of an All-America finish in the triple jump during March's indoor national championship, Dell'Aira was attempting to reciprocate that achievement at this spring's meet. Entering the competition with the nation's 10th farthest jump, Dell'Aira placed 19th today with a distance of 36' 5 3/4", which was under a foot away from cracking the top 10.
