Wheaton women's indoor track & field receives national preseason ranking
NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's indoor track & field team is ranked No. 11 in the 2012 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Preseason National Team Computer Rankings.
Led by first-year head coach Dave Cusano and assistant coaches Kathrine Bright and Kim Spence, the Lyons opened the indoor season with six first-place finishes and one record-breaking time last weekend at the University of Southern Maine Invitational.
"We are very pleased to be ranked alongside the very best programs in the country," said Cusano. "This recognition is a great starting point to our season."
The Lyons were one of eight New England-based programs ranked in the poll, joining Williams (No. 2), MIT (No. 5), Middlebury (No. 8), Wellesley (No. 13), Tufts (No. 18), Keene State (No. 24), and Amherst (No. 25). In terms of conference rankings, the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) placed fourth.
Wheaton returns to action Saturday afternoon when it heads to New Haven, Conn. to compete in the Yale Invitational.
