Women's Track & Field Competes at Armory Track Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Wheaton College women's track & field team battled it out at the 2017 Armory Track Invitational over the weekend, hosted in New York, N.Y.

Junior Abby Epplett led the Lyons in the 800-meter run when she clocked a final of 2:20.70 for a Division III New England Championships qualifying time as first-year Briana Gausland (8.08) and senior Kalah Thomas (8.24) guided Wheaton in the 60-meter dash. In this run, Gausland also earned a spot at the Division III New England Championships.

In the 400-meter, senior Emily Gustavson sealed a final time of 58.96 for the Lyons, enough to qualify her for the postseason while first-year Abby LeBlanc competed in the 1,500-meter run with a final of 5:19.55. LeBlanc went on to guide Wheaton in the one-mile at 5:43.58.

In the 60-meter hurdles, junior Raevyn Fontaine claimed Division III New England Championships and NEICAAA qualifying marks when she timed in a final of 9.24. Senior Jessica Barros also qualified for the postseason at 9.73.

In the high jump, junior Meghan Cochrane sealed a postseason nod after she cleared a 1.55m. Junior Elizabeth Akindolie also earned a spot in the postseason after she finished with a top performance in the triple jump at 10.50m.

Wheaton competes next at the Valentine Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 11 hosted at Boston University.
