AMHERST, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's track & field team earned third place at the Amherst Invitational with 54.5 points on Saturday, hosted at Amherst College. The Lyons tallied numerous personal best times and postseason qualifying times to conclude the meet.
The Lyons swept the 100-meter hurdles with the top three places. Junior Raevyn Fontaine tabbed a new personal best with a postseason qualifying time of 15.14 for first place. She was quickly followed by senior Jessica Barros in second (15.52) and senior Kelly Ludew in third (15.97) also with postseason times.
First-year Briana Gausland guided the Lyons in the 100-meter dash with a third place finish at 12.69. She went on to register fourth place in the 200-meter dash with a 26.17 final, both qualifying her to postseason competition. Senior Kalah Thomas also competed in the 100-meter for the Lyons, claiming sixth place overall.
Junior Caren McCarthy led the way for Wheaton in the high jump when she recorded a 1.48m final while the 4x400-meter relay consisting of Epplett, Thomas, first-year Abby LeBlanc and Gustavson notched second place.
Continuing competition in field events, junior Elizabeth Akindolie recorded second place and a postseason spot in the triple jump when she dished out a 10.88m final mark while sophomore Tara Rochefort led Wheaton in the hammer throw with a strong second place finish at 40.49m. Sophomore Cathryn MacGregor dished out fifth place in the javelin throw to boost Wheaton's momentum with senior Samantha Kaplan gaining a seventh place nod in the long jump.
