TOWSON, Md. - The Wheaton College women's track & field team earned third place on Saturday with a total of 41.5 points at the Towson Invitational and tallied numerous personal best marks.
Junior Elizabeth Akindolie opened action in the triple jump with a big personal best of 11.10m for seventh place. She went on to debut in the long jump, already claiming a postseason qualifying spot with a 5.00m final.
Sophomore Cathryn MacGregor continued Wheaton's strong stride in field events when she recorded third place in javelin with a 37.03m final and a season best performance. Carrying on action in the high jump, junior Caren McCarthy (sixth) and senior Samantha Kaplan (seventh) placed respectively for the Lyons while sophomore Tara Rochefort notched a personal best in the hammer throw.
The 4x100-meter relay consisting of senior Kalah Thomas, senior Emily Gustavson, junior Raevyn Fontaine and first-year Briana Gausland earned a season-best performance and fourth place when they clocked in a final time of 48.21.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Fontaine earned seventh place in finals while senior Kelly Ludew registered a season best spot and Kaplan tabbed a personal best time. Junior Abby Epplett guided the Lyons in the 400-meter race with an eighth place finish at 1:05.50, also qualifying her to postseason competition.
Gustavson push Wheaton's momentum further when she recorded fifth place and a season best time of 25.29 in the 200-meter. Ludew and Thomas followed, both claiming season best times. In the 5,000-meter run, Wheaton was led by sophomore Rebecca Miceli, registering third place.
Wheaton travels to the Trinity Invitational to compete on Saturday for their last regular season meet, hosted at Trinity College.
