The Lyons close out their season with a 10-20 overall record and a 2-7 conference mark. The Pride, which is receiving national votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, won for the 16th time in 17 matches to improve to 28-3 and 9-0.
Freshman Jackie Jones (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) finished with 12 kills, while sophomore Christina Cannon (Milford, N.H./Milford) added four. Senior Kristen Hunt (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) tallied 21 assists, and junior Emily Davisson (Carpinteria, Calif./Laguna Blanca School) had 13 digs.
Springfield senior Heather Lively (Royalston, Mass./Pioneer Valley Christian School) posted a team-best 10 kills, while three other Pride players recorded at least eight. Sophomore Sonya Mickiewicz (Madison, N.J./Madison) accounted for 37 assists, and four Springfield players turned in at least four digs.
The first set proved to be the tightest of the three, as Wheaton trailed just 15-13 following a Cannon kill, but the hosts responded with back-to-back kills and led by at least three points the rest of the way. The Pride opened up an 8-2 lead in the second set and didn't look back, while the Lyons hung tough at the start of the third before succumbing to a 7-2 run that put Springfield in front by a 12-5 count.
