PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Wheaton College women's volleyball team suffered a pair of losses on Friday night at the Johnson & Wales Invitational, falling to Connecticut College 3-0 and Johnson & Wales 3-1.
The Camels defeated the Lyons 25-18, 25-15, and 25-13. Against JWU, the Lyons posted a 26-24 win in game one before dropping game two 25-19, game three 25-16, and game four 25-22.
Junior co-captain Christina Cannon (Milford, N.H./Milford) led the Lyons with seven kills against the Camels. Classmate Olanna Nissim (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) chipped in with four kills and a team-high 16 assists while senior co-captain Emily Davisson (Carpinteria, Calif./Laguna Beach School) recorded 15 digs. Sophomore Lindsay Tebbetts (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford) notched two solo blocks.
For the Camels (1-0), senior Amy Newman (Los Angeles, Calif./Marymount) tallied a match-high 10 kills and seven digs while junior Rachel Schroff (Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes) registered seven kills, five digs, four assists, and three service aces.
Against the Wildcats (1-4), Tebbetts led the way with a match-high 13 kills while Cannon tallied seven, Nissim notched six, and sophomore Kara-Jane Walker (Needham, Mass./Needham) recorded five. Nissim dished out 26 assists and Davisson was credited with 20 digs.
Senior Audrey Warren (Haverhill, Mass./Central Catholic) and freshman Alyssa Drapeau (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) paced the Wildcats with 10 kills each. Junior Courtney Wright tallied 20 digs while sophomore Natasha Finkbeiner (Belgrade, Mont./Belgrade) and freshman Julie Snarr (Glen Allen, Va./Deeprun) combined for 30 assists.
The Lyons (0-5) return to action Saturday when they face Bridgewater State at noon and Amherst at 2 p.m. Connecticut College faces Springfield at 10 am and Keene State at 2 p.m. Johnson & Wales takes on Springfield at noon and Connecticut College at 4 p.m.
