PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Wheaton College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Johnson & Wales Invitational Saturday afternoon, as the Lyons knocked off Bridgewater State 3-0 for their first win of the season before dropping a 3-0 match to Amherst later in the day.
Against the Bears (0-7), sophomore Lindsay Tebbetts (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford) led the way with 17 kills and a .419 hitting pct. Sophomore Marguerite Copeland (Woodbridge, Va./Oldfields School) tallied six kills while classmate Kara-Jane Walker (Needham, Mass./Needham) notched four. Junior Olanna Nissim (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) dished out 38 assists and senior co-captain Emily Davison (Carpinteria, Calif./Laguna Beach School) registered 25 digs.
Tebbetts recorded a team-high seven kills against the Lord Jeffs (3-1), followed by junior Rachel Vergara (Needham, Mass./Needham) with five. Nissim handed out 19 assists while Davisson and junior co-captain Christina Cannon (Milford, N.H./Milford) combined for 35 digs.
Wheaton (1-6) returns to action on Tuesday night when it hosts Coast Guard at 7 p.m.
