WORCESTER, Mass. - Sophomore Lindsay Tebbetts (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford) tallied eight kills in Wheaton College's 3-0 loss to Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's volleyball action Tuesday evening.
The win is the second in three matches for the Cougars and lifts them to 7-11 (3-3 NEWMAC). The loss drops the Lyons to 3-19 (0-6 NEWMAC).
Clark raced out to a 12-1 lead in the opening game and rolled to a 25-13 win. The Cougars captured game two by the same score and rallied back from an 11-5 deficit in the third game to close out the match with a 25-23 win.
Junior co-captain Christina Cannon (Milford, N.H./Milford) posted six kills and five digs for the Lyons. Sophomore Marguerite Copeland (Woodbridge, Va./Oldfields School) chipped in with five kills, senior co-captain Emily Davisson (Carpinteria, Calif./Laguna Blanca School) notched eight digs, and junior Olanna Nissim (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) dished out 16 assists.
For the Cougars, senior Amira Tranchell (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) led the attack with seven kills (.429 hitting pct.) while classmate Kristin McGinty (Vail, Colo./Vail Christian) added six kills on eight total attacks (.750 hitting pct.). Senior Nicole Sullivan (Mansfield, Mass./Marshfield) registered five total blocks while classmate Parker Edmonds (Fort Worth, Texas/Forth Worth) added three of her own. Sophomore Rachel Spera (North Hollywood, Calif./Immaculate Heart Academy) ended with 13 assists, five digs and a match-high four service aces.
The Lyons return to action on Saturday with a tri-match at Western Connecticut State that will also see them face Westfield State. Clark hosts a tri-match with Salve Regina and Massachusetts Maritime on Saturday.
