Lyons defeat Gordon, fall to Colby at Hall of Fame Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's volleyball team defeated Gordon College 3-2 at the Hall of Fame Invitational at Mount Holyole College Saturday afternoon. Earlier in the day, the Lyons suffered a 3-1 setback to Colby College.

The Lyons (4-24) rallied back from a two-games-to-none deficit to defeat the Fighting Scots (12-14) 25-21, 25-20, 26-24, 25-19, 15-7. Sophomore Lindsay Tebbetts (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford) led the Lyons with 12 kills while freshman Leigh Hunt (Milford, Conn./Milford) added eight kills and sophomore Rachel Vergara (Needham, Mass./Needham) had seven kills. Senior co-captain Emily Davisson (Carpinteria, Calif/Laguna Blanca School) notched 29 digs and was named to the All-Tournament Team following the match.

Earlier in the day, Wheaton dropped a 3-1 match to Colby (10-12). The White Mules won 25-10, 17-25, 25-9, 25-23.  Junior co-captain Christina Cannon (Milford, N.H./Milford) led the Lyons with five kills while Vergara and Hunt each added four. Davisson posted 24 kills and sophomore Olanna Nissim (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) handed out 22 assists.

The Lyons return to action on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. match at Babson.
