PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Wheaton College women's volleyball team concluded the two-day Johnson & Wales University Invitational with a 3-1 (27-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-18) victory over the hosts at the Harborside Recreation Center. In the morning match, the Lyons fell to Connecticut College, 3-0 (23-25, 8-25, 18-25).
Wheaton is now 3-5 on the season, just one win shy of matching its 2011 total. At the conclusion of today's invite, freshman Robyn D'Agostino (Three Bridges, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) was named to the all-tournament team.
In the Connecticut College match, freshman Arieanne Creighton (Brookline, N.H./Hollis Brookline) put forward five kills and three service aces, while classmates Casey Hess (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) and Kendall Jacobs (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) had four kills apiece.
Freshman Jackie Kochiss (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) dished out 13 assists with eight digs, while classmate Page Gustofson (South Lake Tahoe, Calif./South Tahoe) added seven helpers.
D'Agostino finished with a match-high 21 digs, and senior Rachel Vergara (Needham, Mass./Needham) contributed seven.
In Wheaton's victory over the host Wildcats, Hess and freshman Anastasia Tammen (San Pedro, Calif./Bishop Montgomery) each recorded nine kills, while Creighton finished with eight. Tammen also turned in 14 digs and a match-high-tying six aces.
Kochiss distributed 16 assists and was one dig shy of a double-double, while also having three aces. Gustofson added 14 assists, and D'Agostino posted a match-high-tying 25 digs.
After playing Springfield yesterday, the Lyons will face the Pride in a rematch on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. in Emerson Gymnasium. That match will serve as both teams' NEWMAC opener.
