Volleyball Sweeps Day One of the Cardinal Classic

GAME ONE:

SCORE: Wheaton 3 - Sage 0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-16)

RECORDS: Wheaton (1-0, 0-0 NEWMAC) - Sage (0-2)

LOCATION: Plattsburgh, N.Y. (Memorial Hall) 

THE RUNDOWN:  

  • Cameron Mercer and Allison Cox led all players with six kills each, while Cathryn MacGregorJulia Palomba and Casey Dinga each ended the match with five. 
  • Sophomore setter Becca Houghton ended the contest with a match-high 29 assists.
  • Captain Stephanie Martin and MacGregor each ended the night with a game-high six digs. 
  • Wheaton trailed just once in both the first and second sets. 
  • Sage captured its biggest lead of the night, 5-3, in the third set on a Lyon attacking error.
  • Back-to-back aces by MacGregor gave the lead back to the Lyons for good.

SCORE: Wheaton 3 - SUNY Canton 2 (25-8, 13-25, 21-25, 25-14, 15-12)

RECORDS: Wheaton (2-0, 0-0 NEWMAC) -SUNY Canton (0-2)

LOCATION: Plattsburgh, N.Y. (Memorial Hall) 

THE RUNDOWN:  

  • Claire Cansler led Wheaton with a team-high 10 kills, ending the contest with a .308 attacking percentage. 
  • Houghton dished out 26 assists in the win, while Martin ended with a game-high 26 digs. 
  • Cansler had a strong night at the net, collecting a game-high seven block assists, while Palomba, MacGregor and Dinga each had four. 
  • Wheaton minimized its errors in the opening set that saw the Lyons cruise to a 25-8 win, that started with a 7-0 opening rally.
  • Unforced errors proved to be too much in the second and third sets with SUNY Canton taking a 2-1 lead. 
  • The Lyons regrouped in the fourth set, taking an 8-2 lead to start, before tying the contest with a strong 25-14 victory.
  • The deciding set saw the Lyons fall behind early before rallying from behind with solid play from MacGregor and Dinga, as well as errors by SUNY Canton.
