NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA- The Wheaton College men's and women's cross country teams finished in the middle of the pack during Saturday's 37th annual University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth Invitational.
The women placed 22nd among 42 competing teams with 678 points, while the men took 25th out of 37 squads with 710 points. The Keene State College men and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) counterpart Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) women claimed their respective titles.
Senior co-captain Katie Pratt (Litchfield, CT/Litchfield) led the Lyons by completing the 5K course in 20:33, good for 106th place, while sophomore Kimberly Nash (Tempe, AZ/McClintock) was the 131st runner to cross the line of the over 300 finishers.
Sophomore Rachel Scavera (North Bend, OR/North Bend) and freshman Lindsay Petrenchik (Chagrin Falls, OH/Chagrin Falls) were within five seconds of one another, and sophomore Monica Black (North Kingstown, RI/North Kingstown) rounded out Wheaton's top five.
For the men, junior Nick Kacher (Waltham, MA/Waltham) completed the 8K run with an 89th-place time of 26:55, while classmate Colin Fahey (Waltham, MA/Weston) took 113th in 27:25. Freshman Michael Richard (Chicopee, MA/Holyoke Catholic) was Wheaton's third runner to cross the finish line.
Freshman Karl Mader (Northfield, MN/Northfield) and senior co-captain Miles Souza (Norton, MA/Saint Sebastian's School) were seven seconds apart and within two placements of each other in finishing out the men's top five.
The Lyons will take next weekend off from competition and return to action on Saturday, October 3, at the Keene State College Invitational.
