SMITHFIELD, R.I. – the Wheaton College men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2011 season at the Bryant University Nassaney Invitational Saturday afternoon. No team scores were recorded.
On the men's side, junior Michael Richard (Chicopee, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) was the Lyons top finisher, completing the 5k course in 64th place with a time of 17:17.63. Freshman John Green (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) was next in 75th place (17:45.53), followed by junior Karl Mader (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) in 78th place (17:49.15), freshman Nick Foley in 82nd place (18:07.91), and senior Sean Astle (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlow) in 86th place (18:51.30).
Junior Lindsay Petrenchik (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) paced the women with a time of 21:25.11, which placed her 70th overall. Senior Rachel Scavera (North Bend, Ore./North Bend) placed 74th with a time of 21:35.01, followed by senior Samantha Geasey (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth) in 79th place (21:48.56), sophomore Shoshana Kruskal (Newton, Mass./Newton North) in 86th place (22:28.73), sophomore Hillary Wilson (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) in 88th place (22:49.89), sophomore Lauren Andres (Branford, Conn./Branford) in 92nd place (23:02.62), and senior Taylor Willis (Kinderhook, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) in 93rd place (23:31.14).
the Lyons return to action next Saturday when they travel to North Dartmouth, MA to compete in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. the women race at 11:15 a.m., followed by the men at noon.
