NORTH DARMOUTH, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the UMass Dartmouth Shriners Cross Country Invitational Saturday afternoon. The women placed 21st while the men finished 25th.
Junior Lindsay Petrenchik (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) paced the women's squad, finishing the 5k course with a time of 20:29.05 to place 82nd. Senior Rachel Scavera (North Bend, Ore./North Bend) was second on the Lyons and 84th overall with a time of 20:29.65, followed by sophomore Hillary Wilson (Amherst, N.Y./Souhegan) in 135th place (21:09.22), senior Savannah Geasey (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth) in 137th place (21:10.33), sophomore Shoshana Kruskal (Newton, Mass./Newton North) in 146th place (21:17.27), and sophomore Lauren Andres (Branford, Conn./Branford) in 178th place (22:22.60).
On the men's side, junior Michael Richard (Chicopee, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) was the Lyons top finisher as he crossed the finish line of the 8k course in 91st place with a time of 27:18.51. Freshman John Green (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) placed second for Wheaton and 115th overall (27:38.68) and was followed by junior Karl Mader (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) in 132nd place (27:56.13), senior Sean Astle (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) in 201st place (30:07.26), and sophomore Christopher Panzini (Revere, Mass./Revere) in 241st place (34:03.59).
MIT captured first place in both races. Coast Guard and Wellesley placed second and third, respectively, on the women's side while Brandeis and Bentley took home second and third, respectively, on the men's side.
The teams return to action on Saturday, Oct. 1 when they compete in the Keene State Invitational. The women will run at 11 a.m. before the men's race begins 45 minutes later.
