Lyons place third at CCRI Tri-State Invitational

LINCOLN, R.I. - The Wheaton College women's cross country team placed third at the 2011 Tri-State Invitational at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) Saturday morning.

Senior Savannah Geasey (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth) led all Lyons runners with a third-place finish. She completed the wet and muddy 5k course in 22:17. Classmate Senior Rachel Scavera (North Bend, Ore./North Bend) placed 10th with a time of 22:45. Both led the race through the first mile.

Sophomore Shoshana Kruskal (Newton, Mass./Newton North) and sophomore Hillary Wilson (Amherst, N.Y./Souhegan) 'packed up' for most of the race. Wilson finished 14th with a time of 23:10 while Kruskal was 16th with a time of 23:20.

Sophomore Lauren Andres (Branford, Conn./Branford) was 24th with a time of 24:35. Freshman Amy Komm (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth) ran her first 5k race on Saturday and placed 38th (26:51).

Worcester State captured first place with a total of 24 points, followed by Clark University in second place with 48 points and Wheaton in third with 68 points. Mount Ida (128 points), Mitchell College (132 points), and Anna Maria College (154 points) rounded out the scoring.

The Lyons return to action on Oct. 14 when they compete at the Saints Invitational at Franklin Park in Boston.
