Wheaton Celebrates Alums at 2019 Yowell Hall of Fame


NORTON, Mass. - Six former scholar-athletes, a legendary two-sport head coach and the first Wheaton baseball team to advance to the Division III World Series championship game were inducted into the Wheaton College Athletics Yowell Hall of Fame on Friday, October 25 in Wheaton's Chase Dining Hall. 

The members of the fourth Yowell Hall of Fame class are Randi Carine '97Angela Mullins '00Tenille Johnson '01Rob Tyson '01, and Barrett Roberts '07, in addition to the 2006 baseball team and former softball and volleyball coach Gina Loudenburg

Celebrating amongst 200 family, friends, and former teammates, the event was one of the most personal to date. Inducting former Wheaton softball and volleyball coach Gina Loundenburg, along with Randi Carine, was Wheaton softball alum, Dina Swanson '02. Teammate and friend Zach Hicks '07 inducted Barrett Roberts, who was joined by the current Wheaton College swimming & diving team. Current head track & field coach and Wheaton alum Kim Spence '04 presented Rob Tyson's mom with his award, while Wheaton alum and former Director of Athletics & Recreation John Sutyak '00, returned to campus to induct Angela Mullins, Tenille Johnson, and the 2006 baseball team. 

The Yowell Hall of Fame was created to honor and give lasting recognition to those individuals who—through participation, support or interest—have made outstanding contributions to the Wheaton College athletics as well as sports and society. The individuals and teams enshrined have not only brought recognition, honor, distinction, and excellence to Wheaton and its intercollegiate athletics program, but they also have continued to demonstrate in their lives the values imparted by intercollegiate athletics.  

Nominations for the 2021 Yowell Hall of Fame class are now open! Eligible nominees included individuals whose class graduated at least ten years prior to the induction year (2011 graduates are eligible). All nominees to the Athletics HOF must have maintained a record of good standing in their communities and their chosen fields of endeavor.  Moral character and good citizenship during their undergraduate years will also be taken into consideration. The record of the nominee must be such that there are no questions of qualifying for the Athletics HOF. Former varsity athletes may be nominated only if they have participated in two (2) full seasons of varsity athletics at Wheaton. NOMINATE TODAY
