Question & Answer
What do you love about working at Wheaton College?
The community! Wheaton is a very unique place because of the people. The students continually amaze me with their talents and what they accomplish athletically and academically. It is very enjoyable to be able to watch them grow over their 4 years at Wheaton and beyond. Also, there are not many colleges that have administration, faculty and staff that thrive on collaboration and building relationships. I don't think there is one person on this campus that I couldn't pick up the phone and call if I needed help with something. The investment my colleagues make into Wheaton on a daily basis in order to find ways to best serve students is very motivating
What do you enjoy outside of work?
The thing I most enjoy outside of work is spending time with my family and friends. I am extremely fortunate to have such a strong support system. Also, in the last few years I have discovered a passion for building (corn-hole boards, furniture, any crazy project my nieces come up with, etc.). If there is any time left over I enjoy going to the movies, walking, playing golf and skiing.
What was your path to end up at Wheaton?
Ironically, I grew up about 30 minutes from Wheaton and had never heard of it until I was recruited to play sports here. Once I graduated I got a job at a private boarding school through a teammate's father and stayed there for 8 years as a dorm parent, math teacher, coach and athletic director. After I got my master's degree at Springfield I spent 13 years at Salve Regina. For 8 years I coached soccer and softball and was the assistant AD. The last 5 years I spent as the Associate Athletics Director. Then I was fortunate to "come home" and have been at Wheaton ever since.
How do you enhance the student-athlete experience?
The reason why I have always wanted to come back to work at Wheaton after I graduated was because of the positive experience I had here as a student-athlete. I was supported by coaches, staff and faculty to follow ALL of my interests and passions. I feel my primary focus every day is to find ways to impact the student-athlete experience in a myriad of ways. We have a tremendous staff and I do my best to support their goals and vision. I try to make as many connections with campus partners to help enhance the programming we do for our students and staff. Most importantly, I try to get to know and learn from the student-athletes about what they need to make their holistic experience as positive as possible.
What is your most memorable memory at Wheaton?
There are too many to pick one. I have had the privilege of being a student-athlete at Wheaton and now proudly work here. Also, my two younger sisters (Lynne '92, Leslie '94) went here as well. I have had 12 terrific years here as a student and staff member. The fact that my family has been a huge part and entwined in my experience, makes me blessed with so many wonderful memories that I could never pick one.
