Kate McCaffrey has been Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students since December 2014. Her tenure at Wheaton began in July of 2010 as the Associate Dean of Students and Director of Residential Life.
For over 20 years, Kate has served in various roles within student affairs. The bulk of her career has been spent at small, private, residential, liberal arts colleges including Hobart and William Smith Colleges, St. Lawrence University and Skidmore College.
Kate received her B.A. in Sociology from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts; an M.S. degree from Colorado State University in Student Affairs in Higher Education and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership, also at Colorado State University.
Kate's research for her doctoral work focused and continues to focus on “change leadership in organizations”. Since her arrival at Wheaton, she has led change in many areas on campus. Most recently, Kate served as the Co-Chair of the Athletics and Recreation Strategic Planning taskforce during 2018-19. She co-chaired the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategic planning task force in 2018-19.
In addition to the work that she does at Wheaton, Kate also serves as a NASPA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education) Advisory Services member; NASPA Region 1 Regional Board of Directors; and on the NCAA Division III Athletic Direct Report (ADR) Institute Planning Committee.
