Laura Murphy is entering her sixth year as an assistant athletic trainer in 2018-19 on the Wheaton College staff. Along with her athletic training duties, Murphy is also a certified strength and condition coach.
Murphy joined Greg Steele and Kathy DiSilvestri as the third member of the staff after spending two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Emerson College (2011-13). Murphy worked directly with several programs including women’s soccer, women’s basketball, men’s volleyball and women’s lacrosse, while also serving as a preceptor for Boston University athletic training students. In addition to her duties at Emerson, Murphy has worked with the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) for four-straight seasons as the team’s certified athletic trainer during the summer.
Murphy is a 2011 graduate of Endicott College having earned her bachelor’s degree in athletic training with a minor in psychology. As an undergraduate, she assisted Endicott’s certified athletic training staff in primary care with the men’s soccer, men’s lacrosse, men’s basketball and men’s ice hockey programs. Murphy, who is currently pursuing her master’s degree in health education from Boston University, also coordinated responsibilities with athletic training students and mentored them for academic support as well as clinical proficiencies.
Murphy received Athletic Training Student of the Year honors in 2011 and served as the Athletic Training Club secretary from January 2010 to May 2011. During her undergraduate clinical experience, Murphy worked with several organizations including TD Athlete’s Edge, The Pingree School and the Step into Sport Camp at Loughborough University in Leicestershire, United Kingdom.
